PAUL TOWNSLEY appointed Director of Strategic Development NICHE are delighted to announce the appointment of Paul Townsley, a highly respected member of the learning and teaching community in the UK. Until recently, Paul was Principal & Chief Executive of Dearne Valley College, and has previously held executive positions at colleges in Telford, London and Humberside. In addition he holds a significant role within OFSTED, and is a consultant with Association of Colleges. Throughout his career he has believed in the importance of innovation and developing projects that raise standards. On joining NICHE, Paul said “Thank you for the invitation to join NICHE, I consider it a privilege to be included on your organisation's journey to success".
BIRMINGHAM CITY COUNCIL Partnership agreed Following several months of negotiations, NICHE's new parent organisation, United Training Partnership, has secured a highly prized partnership with Birmingham City Council. Douglas Laird, Business Development Manager for Birmingham Libraries & Learning Services welcomed the new partnership and said, “We see this as the first step of a mutually beneficial partnership which introduces a wide range of education and training to the residents of Birmingham and the West Midlands.
THIRD SECTOR Apprenticeship Frameworks Agreed NICHE have been influential in helping to bring the Level 3 Apprenticeship frameworks for Fundraising, Volunteer Management and Campaigning to the point of being available for use and funded by the Skills Funding Agency. It is anticipated that these courses will be available to organisations in the Third Sector from April, and these will address a major gap in provision for many charities, churches, and other not-for-profit organisations.
MICROSOFT NICHE is working closely with Microsoft to promote many of their courses designed to introduce IT skills to people who's lack of skill is holding them back in education and employment. Our digital inclusion project has been designed to engage new learners, and to encourage those who struggle with the costs of equipment we are working closely with Microsoft to provide reconditioned desktop computers and Internet access packages that attractively priced. Claire Riley, Education Relations Group Manager at Microsoft said “ Over two million perfectly good computers are recycled in the UK annually and over 1 million are shipped overseas. The NICHE Digital Inclusion Project will not only see more reconditioned computers go to those who need them but will stimulate many people to use their new skills to improve the communities in which they live”.
